I spent my weekend rebuilding TCQ from the ground up using modern tooling and adding every feature I've ever wanted (and nearly every request from its issue tracker) https://github.com/michaelficarra/michael-tcq

If anyone wants to hop on a call some time this week and help me stress test it, maybe one day we could actually use it in a meeting

lots of quality of life features for the chairs, too, like copying/restoring the queue, copying the results of a temp check, auto importing an agenda document, modifying the chair list after the meeting has been created, ...

wow. this looks fantastic! I will definitely have more feedback later but here are some initial thoughts:

the fact that TCQ has somewhat limited functionality is, imo, a feature, not a bug. but it definitely needs many/all of these improvements, and more

Instant queue entry

this is great for many cases, but in others, e.g. people intending to write </end> / EOM things, will be awkward, so maybe there should be both options possible. (not sure the best way to reconcile off the top of my head)

Agenda import

does it work from the schedule (hackmd)?

advancing to the next agenda item prompts for confirmation when the queue is non-empty

seems fine, but requiring to drain the queue before allowing advancement may be preferable

we could also really use an undo button

No, it takes the agenda as input. I'm sure we could make it work from the hackmd schedule though. But also it's very easy to drag/drop the agenda items to rearrange them once it's in, so it's not a big difference IMO.

The alternative is that they miss their chance to get on the queue at all, which doesn't ever seem preferable.

don't get me wrong -- this is a good addition 🙂

It'll also likely increase the overall quality of the queue entries. Instead of writing something quick just to reserve your spot, you can reserve your spot first and take a second to express your idea better. And even make revisions now that they're editable!

see i think the non-editable system teach us all how to write better clickbait headlines

need the queue to be sorted by upvotes instead of first-come-first-served

<bakkot>
or sort-by-controversial, tbh

I may or may not have a desktop folder of tcq entry screenshots of the ones that made me laugh
