what's the process for a person/company to become a delegate? i have a friend very interested in becoming a delegate, but neither he nor his employer are currently involved/delegates/members/etc 😅

<Surma>
^ relevant to my interest as well!

There’s information at https://github.com/tc39/how-we-work/blob/master/join-tc39.md.

Basically, it’s $75/yr for company-unaffiliated individual members. https://www.ecma-international.org/about-ecma/join-ecma/

<ptomato>
does the employer want to become a member of ECMA? if not then the invited expert process seems plausible
14:52
<jschoi>
Ah, yeah, there are also invited experts, which does not cost money. For example, there’s at least one Babel member who is an invited expert. Information about this is at https://github.com/tc39/how-we-work/blob/master/invited-expert.md.
14:52
<Devin Rousso>
i dunno if his employer wants to join or not
14:53
<Devin Rousso>
is it possible for him to join as an individual? either as an invited expert or some other thing?

wait, where is this a thing?
14:54
<ljharb>
i don't see anything on that page that mentions an individual membership and was unaware that was an option
14:54
<ljharb>
Devin Rousso: unless something's changed, the path to be a delegate is pretty much for their employer to join. they can be an invited expert but typically that's usually for specific feedback on a specific topic or proposal
14:55
<ljharb>
they can also participate in the OpenJS Foundation's Standards Working Group, and then become a delegate for the foundation
14:55
<ljharb>
but if they're representing their employer in any way then the expectation is that their employer will join
14:58
<Devin Rousso>
dope ty 😁

I was mistaken! I had misread the page. My apologies for misleading you, Devin Rousso. : (
