Nope. HTML has moved towards a so-called "living standard" model. Implementors are supposed to continuously watch and keep up the HTML standard as is it evolves. The barrier is that pull requests to the HTML standard are gated by a rule that at least 2 of 3 major web engines (gecko, blink, webkit) need to agree and implement.

apropos, now that I visit html.spec.whatwg.org again, I also have a question -- what's special about the "Version for Web Devs" linked at the top of the spec?.... Nevermind there's an "about" section 🤦‍♂️

jarhar: making progress on https://github.com/whatwg/html/pull/8467#issuecomment-1693607442 would be great, it'd unblock WebKit working on it

littledan: not sure if you're still interested in doing more with text and canvas, but perhaps helping with ensuring existing issues such as https://github.com/whatwg/html/pull/5826 get resolved would help pave the way there; if we can't even get what little text support we have today to work well I'd be rather worried about anything more complex than that

Thanks, sounds like a good starting project. I will see if we can get started on this in January
