Domenic i see JavaScript code using fetch in the html repository
00:06
<jolvera>
can we use fetch and reduce for the search bar?
00:07
<Domenic>
jolvera: definitely. For dev edition at least we should be able to assume latest of each browser IMO.
00:07
<jolvera>
nice

Hi, I have a possibly weird question. Would it be worthwhile to propose a standard for servers that serve images to suggest alt tags? Dynamically generated images like badges on Github, Stackoverflow flare and 90's visitor counters can't have a useful alt tag at the moment.
01:51
<bigblind>
oh and by alt tags, I mean an alt attribute :) It's late here and my brain is too fried to use correct terminology.
02:10
<a-ja>
bigblind: perhaps https://www.w3.org/TR/html-alt-techniques/ <== now defunct
02:13
<a-ja>
https://www.w3.org/TR/IMPLEMENTING-ATAG20/
02:15
<bigblind>
a-ja: Even the link where that document says more content can be found seems broken, it just links to the html element, and the ID doesn't exist on the page as far as I can tell
02:18
<a-ja>
indeed
02:19
<a-ja>
think there was an old whatwg authoring guidance doc at some point, too, though i can't seem to be able to find that one anymore.
03:34
<TabAtkins>
Hm, like a header for alt value? Might be interesting.
03:39
<bigblind>
Yep, that's what I was thinking
04:27
<MikeSmith>
Domenic: https://sideshowbarker.net is back
04:28
<MikeSmith>
and https://checker.html5.org/ is back (though the downtime there was unrelated)
04:28
<MikeSmith>
a-ja: here now
04:34
<a-ja>
MikeSmith: never mind...thought there was a validator problem with = signs in CSP report-to
04:36
<MikeSmith>
a-ja: OK
04:36
<a-ja>
MikeSmith, gonna support link/header rel=serviceworker any time soon?
04:37
<MikeSmith>
I thought I already added support for link rel=serviceworker
04:37
<a-ja>
MikeSmith, btw, nice that you cleaned up the page footer :)
04:37
<MikeSmith>
as far as the header checking, no plan to add support for that at this point
04:38
<MikeSmith>
cleaned up the page footer?
04:38
<MikeSmith>
I can’t remember making any recent change there
04:39
<MikeSmith>
I’m not opposed to adding rel=serviceworker Link header checking if there’s some value that merits adding it
04:39
<a-ja>
doesn't like scope, updateviacache, or workertype attributes
04:39
<MikeSmith>
but in general the checker isn’t doing header checking, with a few exceptions
04:39
<MikeSmith>
ah
04:39
<MikeSmith>
yeah those were added recently
04:39
<MikeSmith>
so I need to update the source
04:40
<MikeSmith>
if you could file an issue for that with a minimal test case, that would help
04:40
<MikeSmith>
I can add the support this weekend
04:40
<MikeSmith>
aslo FYI if there is ever an HTML checker issue with checking CSP headers, it’s due completely to the underlying code in the Salvation library the checker depends on for that
04:40
<a-ja>
no Github account, but I guess now's the time to get one
04:41
<MikeSmith>
well yeah you should have a github account :)
04:41
<MikeSmith>
you will find it useful for other things
04:42
<MikeSmith>
like filing bugs against the Salvation sources too :)
04:42
<a-ja>
heh

<nox>
TabAtkins: I see that Webkit serialises calc(42) as 42 but Gecko doesn't. Is that completely unspecified?
13:56
<TabAtkins>
nox: Specified, but the section is less than a year old https://drafts.csswg.org/css-values/#calc-serialize
14:45
<nox>
TabAtkins: Thanks.
14:56
<nox>
TabAtkins: So calc(42) is calc(42) when serialising specified values, and 42 when serialising computed values, right?
14:56
<TabAtkins>
Yeah
14:56
<nox>
And for a specified non-negative number, calc(-42) becomes calc(0) and then 0?
14:56
<TabAtkins>
Yup.
14:57
<nox>
TabAtkins: ACK.
14:57
<nox>
Will try to align Servo and see if Gecko tests fail.
14:57
<TabAtkins>
Assume that's "message recieved" and not "Cathy-like freaking out".
14:58
<nox>
TabAtkins: The former indeed. :)
15:00
<TabAtkins>
Just to clarify - the "becomes calc(0) and then 0" happens at computed-value time. It's still calc(-42) at specified value time.
15:04
<nox>
TabAtkins: Oh!
15:04
<nox>
TabAtkins: Well, guess I have nothing to fix then! :D
15:04
<TabAtkins>
Good then!
15:05
<TabAtkins>
Yeah, all that happens at specified-value time is that you resolve it down to a sum of units, and combine identical ones.
